Erin Quarnstrom, an Illinois teacher and speech pathologist, works to train other teachers on helping children with autism in their classrooms. Quarnstrom trains teachers in how to set up their classrooms and develop teaching tools, such as visual schedules.

As a part of Autism Awareness Campaign Through International Organizations Networking (AACTION), she will be travelling to India to teach parents some of these same training skills. For the most part, parents in India are the teachers for their children with autism. Quarnstrom explains, “Children with autism don't typically have a place in schools in India. The schools that do exist tend to be created by parents, so the teachers are parents with no experience.”
